Finns intenst dyrkede hobby var gjenspeilt i hans motto Life Is Short, Drink Champagne.

Dear Julie and Sam!

Finn was the first person I got to know when I moved to Brussels in 2012. At that time, he was so happy because he was going to marry you, Julie. Despite being busy preparing for his wedding, he was more than willing to share his knowledge and experience with me – both his professional experience from the European Commission and all kind of good advice on how to adapt to Brussels as a new expat. Since then I have enjoyed Finn's company in a lot of different settings – from professional settings and politics, to party and Champagne. Finn was an outstanding person and friend in terms of his knowledge, humour and his generosity!

That Finn is not with us anymore is hard to comprehend. The loss the two of you must feel is even more unimaginable. My best thoughts and wishes to you in these difficult times.

Love, Tom-Espen

When I learned of Finn’s passing I had been working over the long weekend on updating and revising the Youth Policy Manual (his influential Youth Policy Manual)! What a strange turn of events. I knew Finn from his days at the European Youth Forum (during the 1999-2001 White Paper process, in particular), stayed in touch with him when he went to Sarajevo, argued with him in Belgrade quite forcefully over the Youth Policy Manual (but also helped him with it), loved him when he came to my house in Wales, met and had a meal with my family and watched the Eurovision Song Contest together (he was so happy when Norway won), really quite disliked him when he unilaterally and autocratically abolished the European Network of Youth Research Correspondents (though I agreed with the decision), and had a drink (or three) with him to celebrate him meeting Julie and deciding to stay in Brussels with EFTA for that reason. Despite his EU authority sometimes going to his head, he was always one of us - informed, experienced, committed, engaged, which was both valued and valuable to the field. We all loved him for that. We kept in touch through Facebook. I will miss him. God bless you, Finn
